December Update

December 2009 has been an exciting month for the Watoto Children’s Choir here in the US! We started the month off December 1st with a special World AIDS Day Concert of HOPE at Firewheel Church in Garland, Texas.

We were blessed to have artists and speakers from near and far join us for this special day to raise awareness and encourage action regarding the devastating impact that HIV/AIDS is having on our world today. Some of the guests included Kari Jobe, Mia Fieldes from Hillsong in Sydney Australia, e3 Partner’s Pastor David Piganio from Tanzania and more. Around 500 people joined their HEARTS, MINDS & VOICES with people around the world to fight HIV/AIDS.

Here are a few photos from the memorable night:

Just weeks later, the Choir was invited to perform with Chris Tomlin and Christy Nockels on the FOX & Friends Christmas Special recording which took place at Fox Studios in New York City. The show will air on Fox News primetime Christmas Eve and then again on Christmas Day. Check your local listing for air times.

Such joy was felt throughout the Studio

Thank you Louie, Shelley and the whole sixsteps crew for loving us!

Chilly New York weather couldn’t dampen the children’s excitement about all of the new sights and sounds they were experiencing. With just a few minutes left before the bus picked us up to head back to JFK airport, we took some fun pics in front of the huge Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center and watched a bit of ice-skating. Seeing people slide across ice was quite a sight to behold for these sweet kids from Uganda, a country near the equator that never sees snow or ice.

The Christmas holidays are now upon us and the Choir will be spending some much-needed time of rest with friends in Missouri. They will be returning to Texas in early January with a concert at Celebration Church in Georgetown, TX. Be sure to check the Choir schedule to see when they will be performing in your area.

  2. I attended Passion 2010 as a volunteer. I attended a breakout session on worship and justice, and I stood to my feet and Marilyn Skinner ended up praying over me and others who chose to say YES to the Lord in the next steps He has for us. I heard your story from Chris Tomlin of the day you got to spend time with him in the studio and how “This is Love” was produced. The days before I attended and learned about all of you, I was going to my hotel when a post card was on the ground that I decided to pick up. It was about the Watoto Choir. After learning about you, I now know more about you, and I will keep that post card in my journal.

I currently attend school at Christ For the Nations Institute in Dallas studying in the School of Worship. This is one of the schools that Kari Jobe graduated from. I gave her a hug this past semester when she came and taught one of our classes. It was awesome to come across this blog tonight, and to be able to say that I will be keeping you all in prayer. May God bless you richly this coming year.
